Quick summary
Most of what Salla merchants ask a developer for can be solved from the platform settings or with an app from its marketplace — and we say so before taking any money. A developer genuinely earns their fee in four cases: theme customization beyond the settings panel, a mobile app connected to the store, integration with an accounting system or shipping carrier, and a feature that exists neither in the platform nor its app marketplace. Real prices: small changes from SAR 1,500, a full theme customization from 6,000, a connected app from 18,000.
First: what does not need a developer
Before paying anyone, make sure your request is not on this list — all of these are handled inside your own dashboard or with a marketplace app: changing colors, logo and fonts within the theme options; adding static pages such as About or Return Policy; connecting officially supported payment and shipping providers; and basic discount codes, loyalty programmes and abandoned-cart flows.
What genuinely needs a developer
| Case | Why it needs code | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Theme customization beyond settings | Direct work on the template, CSS and JavaScript so your store is not one of thousands on the same stock theme | SAR 6,000 – 20,000 |
| Mobile app connected to the store | An app reading products and orders through the platform APIs so you never run two inventories | From SAR 18,000 |
| Accounting system integration | Orders and invoices synced in line with e-invoicing requirements instead of double entry | SAR 5,000 – 18,000 |
| Shipping carrier and tracking | Waybills created automatically, status updated, customer notified without your involvement | SAR 5,000 – 15,000 |
Freelancer or agency?
Here is something that may not serve us: for a simple one-off edit, a freelancer is usually the better choice — cheaper and faster, and there is no sense paying an agency cost structure to change colors. The difference appears in three places only: documented code any developer can continue, a written contract and scope rather than chat messages, and someone still accountable when something breaks three months later.
What we do on Salla and Zid stores, with pricing, is on the service page. If you are still comparing staying on the platform against building a custom store, the trade-off is explained there.
